Street party

What a lovely afternoon Year 6 had on Friday. The aim was to recreate in some part - a street party to celebrate the end of World War 2 and to mark the end of our topic this term. The children have worked very hard this term and have really entered into the spirit of the activities. It was also great to see parents and grandparents join us for the hour, one Grandma even brought along a photo of herself at her own street party to mark the end of the War. We finished the party with a sing a long of We'll meet again!

Junior Citizens

Today the whole of year 6 went to Junior Citizens, this is organised by the Metropolitan Police. The aim of the afternoon is to give the children role play opportunities where they can learn key skills and also aid them with their transition by looking at how they would travel to Secondary School. The children had a great day as you can see below:

Lunar Theme Park

6B have been designing their own theme parks for the moon! They started with a budget of £500,000 to play with (they wish!) and many different running costs. We will be holding an Apprentice/Dragon's Den session this week to see who has ran the most successful theme park.

Silent Movies

In our music lessons before Easter, we were learning about silent movies. We found out that the music was added afterwards to make it more exciting. In small groups we chose a scene to act out; composed the music to go with it; recorded the music using a computer program called Audacity and finally we put it all together to make our own silent movies- what do you think?

Yeast Experiment

Our topic on Micro-organisms has been very interesting and the children have been learning about yeast. Here are some pictures of our experiment- why don't you ask one of the children in 6B about what they learnt about yeast.

Multi Sports at Woodbridge

Last Friday all of year 6 were invited to Woodbridge top take part in a multi sports event. the children were all mixed up and split into lots of different teams, with names like Tigers and Wild cats, they then completed a round robin of activities including hurdling, skipping and cheer leading. The children really enjoyed themselves and all participated fully - congratulations to those children who were chosen to win medals for their effort and also to the winning team. Would be great to hear comments at to what the favourite sport was and would you like to do more of it at Oakdale!

Music lessons!

Over the last few weeks, we have been listening to a piece of music called Relay Race. The children were put into groups and had to learn the different parts for the piece using glockenspiels. After lots of hard work, we finally managed a class performance today; what do you think?!

Words of Wisdom

In RE this week we looked at the story of Jesus and the Rich Man. The issue of wealth and possessions was the topic of discussion and each table decided upon some phrases that they felt defined true wealth. I'm very impressed by their understanding of this, what do you think?

BBC Trip

Yesterday we went to the BBC Television Center in White City. The class were split into two groups and were taken on a tour to show what happens there. We were fascinated by the TARDIS, the News centre, the filming of Eggheads and some were lucky enough to have 15 Minutes of fame!

Animation

In literacy, we have been looking at an animation called The Piano. We then were able to design our own animations. We made the characters out of clay and drew the different backgrounds we would need. The final touch is to edit them by adding music and effects. They are almost finished and will hopefully be on the Blog asap, so keep checking.
